About Us

FROM BACKYARD HOMESTEADERS TO QUALITY QUAIL & POULTRY PROVIDERS
We bought a small house in 2017 that had a fairly large backyard. We never intended to raise any type of animal, but after a friend's Facebook post advertising baby bunnies, we decided to get one for the kids as a Christmas gift in 2017. Things were busy as we were doing lots of renovations on our little 1940's house, but in August of 2018 after visiting a friends house who had newly hatched Indian Runner ducklings, we decided to get a couple. Those two ducks unfortunately got taken out by an opossum, so we had to replace them. Of course there were 4 ducklings available so we took them all.
In February of 2019, my 19 year old brother was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer (
https://www.facebook.com/groups/micahsjourney2019).  We were trying to keep our minds occupied during this extremely stressful and anxious time, so after some research we decided in April 2019 to get a few quail for eggs and meat, and to help give the kids something exciting to do. We started with 8... and they multiplied from there. July of 2019 was the month we lost my younger brother, and also the month that we realized that faith and family is what really matters. I wanted to build a business where our whole family could be involved, and started really researching coturnix and the genetics involved. We hatched different colours and made breeding pens and started selling eggs in September 2019. (This is around the time we got our first chickens as well.) We started with the quail in our 11x11 shed in our backyard, but had to rent a barn for the winter because we had too many birds to keep in the shed. In July 2020, God worked it all out so we could move to a larger property, where we could have a better suited place to raise our poultry and work on breeding different quail breeds. In spring 2021, we moved to our farm in Cottam where we have lots of space and plans to expand!

We have a strong belief that God created these animals for our good, and we aim to take care of them in the best way possible. Our three children help with the chores and our aim is to raise our children with good work ethics, respect and compassion for animals, and integrity. Those characteristics are what our business is built on and our goal is to provide our customers with quality products, integrity, and fabulous customer service.

In late 2021, an idea was born to create a place for other people to share the experiences of being on a farm. We started with booking private farm tours, and the idea took off. More and more people wanted to book, word spread and soon we booked solid with no more openings. Our plans for 2022 is to expand into the surrounding fields, and create a space for people to escape the noise and come and experience the solitude of the country.
